What should you document before move-in?

Use this quick preview to help organize your move-in photos and records. The full list will be emailed to you.

1. Cleaning

Photograph the oven, stove hood, and inside cabinets at move-in.

2. Carpet stains

Take clear photos of the carpet in each room before moving furniture in.

3. Paint and wall marks

Photograph each wall and any marks or paint issues already present.

4. Nail and anchor holes

Record existing holes or wall damage before hanging anything

5. Appliance condition

Photograph the oven, microwave, and visible appliance condition.

6. Blinds and window coverings

Take a photo of each window covering and note damage or missing pieces.

7. Bulbs, alarm batteries, and keys

Record working bulbs and the number of keys provided; note any issues.

8. Flooring damage

Photograph existing chips, gouges, burns, or other visible floor damage.

9. Yard or patio

If the lease makes you responsible for it, document the yard or patio condition.

10. Rent, fees, and utilities

Keep your payment records and account ledger; these are not photo items.
